This article explains how to create a filter in Gmail to always allow email from specific senders or domains, whether you start from scratch or use an existing message similar to the one you want to allow.
The way to mark a specific email address or domain as allowed is to create an email filter.
Open Gmail. In the upper right corner, select the Settings (gear) icon. Select Settings from the menu.
Select a filter and blocked addresses .
Select Create new filter . If you already have a lot of filters, you'll have to scroll down to find this link.
A dialog box appears. In the From field, enter the email address you want to allow. Be sure to enter your complete email address, such as example@yahoo.com . To allow every email address from a specific domain, type only that domain name, such as @yahoo.com .
At the bottom of the dialog box, select Create filter.
On the next screen, tell Gmail what to do with the email address or domain you just specified. To do this, select Never send this to spam . To complete the process, select Create filter .
If you want to allow multiple email addresses or domains, you don't need to repeat these steps for each address or domain. Instead, place a vertical bar (and the spaces before and after it) between separate accounts, like this: person1@example.com | person2@anotherexample.com | @example2.com .
You can also create email filters in Gmail starting with messages from people you want to add to your allowed list.
Open the message.
In the upper right corner of the message, select the three-dot (menu) icon. Choose to filter messages like this .
Now that the email address is automatically filled in the " From" field, follow steps 5 and 6 above.
Keep these additional points in mind when creating filters in Gmail.
- When you add an email address or domain in Gmail, the filter isn't applied to received messages. It starts working from the moment you enable it.
- If you are considering allowing an entire domain, consider the possible consequences. For example, if you allow @gmail.com, every email from a Gmail.com address will be blocked from your spam folder. However, there's a good chance that some emails from @gmail.com addresses really should be sent there. It makes more sense to allow a company you do business with when (for whatever reason) emails from individuals at that company end up in your spam folder.
- Another way to mark an email as not spam is to use the Not Spam button. However, this button is only visible when opening the message from the spam folder. In other words, you can't proactively prevent messages from being marked as spam using this method.
