Netflix's April lineup includes highly anticipated dramas, reality TV shenanigans and dark documentaries. "Ripley" (April 4) is based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley " (you may be familiar with the 1999 film of the same name). Now a black and white series starring Andrew Scott, Dakota Fanning and Johnny Flynn. Scott plays the eponymous character, a New York scam artist, in the eight-episode psychological thriller.
Later this month, The Circle premieres its sixth season (April 17), a reality competition show in which contestants strive to become the top social media influencer.
April Fools' Day brings a new show from magician comedian Justin Wellman, whose Humans series has aired on Netflix for three seasons to date. Justin Wellman's Magic Prank Show (April 1) favors performing elaborate pranks on unsuspecting targets.
In the true-crime genre, there are the novels What Jennifer Did (April 10), about the investigation into a seemingly fatal home invasion in Ontario, Canada, in 2010, and Berlin Crime Scene: Nightlife Killers (April 10). April 3), the film looks at a series of murders that occurred at a Berlin party scene in 2012.
Other entries in the documentary category include The World We Live in (April 17), a new nature series narrated by Cate Blanchett; and The Antisocial Network: Memes to Chaos” (April 5), which delves into the rise and impact of the internet forum 4chan, is coming to Netflix after recently premiering at the SXSW Film Festival.
April’s comedy lineup includes Demetri Martin’s new hour ( “Demetri Deconstructed,” April 2) and Neal Brennan’s third Netflix special ( “Crazy Good,” April 9), covering everything from cryptocurrencies to Various areas of mental health, as well as Jimmy Carr ( Natural Born Killers, April 16) and Fern Brady ( Autism Bikini Queen , April 22).
