In Bustle's Pore Decisions, celebrities, influencers, and Bustle's own readers talk about their personal skin journeys: the good, the bad, and everything in between. Here, Christina Ricci shares her go-to beauty tools and the products she uses to "defy gravity."
Even though Christina Ricci has been starring in blockbusters since she was 9 years old, her beauty routine is still pretty down to earth—in fact, it might look a little like yours. When she's putting on makeup on set — like playing Wednesday Addams — she turns to a tried-and-true staple after applying her makeup: makeup wipes.
"I'll use it at night to cleanse my skin, but then I won't really put anything on it," she tells Bustle. Eventually, that movie-ready makeup started to take its toll, and Richie said she suffered from acne as a teenager. "That's when I started getting [acne] treatments on my face and trying to keep it clean," she said.
Fast forward to today, and the actor's skin-care regimen has been down to a science — thanks in large part to her longtime dermatologist, Dr. Harold Lancer, with whom she now collaborates. Thanks to him, the Yellowjacket star has added a trusty exfoliant to her routine, as well as a face cream specially formulated to tackle her biggest skin concern: gravity.
Here, Ricci talks to Bustle about the first beauty product she ever bought, the weirdest thing she's ever done in the name of skin care, and the most impactful part of her regimen.
About her earliest beautiful memories
"The first time I became aware of skin care was when I started traveling with my mother as a child. We would stay in hotels and at the end of the night I would watch her take care of her skin. She always used Pond's Cold Cream, which to remove all makeup and then apply more as a moisturizer.”
About her first time buying skin care products
"I remember when I was 18, while filming Sleepy Hollow in London, I went to Harvey Nichols and bought my first night cream. When I was younger, I was a bit wild; I used to go to parties and smoke cigarettes, and I Knowing that I wasn't really taking care of my skin and internal health. So at that age, I was like, 'Okay, I've got to use anti-aging stuff and night creams and stuff like that.'
So I started very young. I remember being told that I was too young to use this product that I bought. This is a Clé de Peau cream - which I absolutely love, just because I love the packaging and the smell of it. It must look good. "
On her most outrageous beauty treatments
"I remember when I was younger I read about people shaving as an exfoliation technique. I was doing that for a while and then my mom caught me once and said to me, 'If you shave, you'll grow more s hair. "She said if I didn't stop, I would grow a beard on myself."
About facial care
"I'm not a big-faced person. I don't have a lot of patience with life, and just laying there and getting facials drives me crazy. I'm terrible at it. I can't even do my nails."
Her go-to beauty tool
"I use this thing from FaceGym - it's a microcurrent thing. Sometimes I use it if I have to go to an event or come in with red eyes or not feeling 100 percent comfortable with facial puffiness. "
About her skin care routine
"As I got older, some issues arose that I didn't foresee - like gravity. I forgot that gravity would start to have an effect on my face. Because of this, I had to add different things into my daily routine .I use Lancer's Anti-Gravity Moisturizer to lift and tighten everything and try to keep everything where it should be.
"I also add different serums, like the tri-peptide serum. I also use retinol, which I think is very effective and helpful.
"I think exfoliation is really important. Something I absolutely love and use every day is Lancer Method Polish. I would be very sad if the TSA took it away from me. It is the most effective exfoliant, It’s not too harsh on the skin and it’s really, really nice. It makes such a difference. You can see it immediately after using it.”
