The late 1990s were an unforgettable time, especially 2007. The iPhone debuted, the final Harry Potter book was published, the Spice Girls reunited and two of Britain's biggest girl groups teamed up to create a 1990s masterpiece. Nearly two decades later, their songs are becoming popular again.
When @PopBase asked "What is one of the most iconic collaborations in music history?" nineties expert @loveofhuns posted a clip of Girls Aloud and the Sugababes collaborating on "Walk This Way" for Comic Relief. Originally recorded by Aerosmith and later with Run DMC, Girls Aloud and the Sugababes covered the song as a charity single for Red Nose Day in 2007. The song soared straight to number one the week it was released (understandably so), taking the UK by storm. Along with the single, the girl group released an iconic music video, a recreation of the Aerosmith/Run DMC video, which also features Davina McCall, Lily Cole, Stephen Mangan, Graham Norton, Ruby Wax, and Natalie Cassidy.
Both bands have been thrust into the spotlight recently following the song's popularity. The original Sugababes line-up, consisting of Siobhan Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan, reunited in 2019 and announced their first UK tour in over 20 years last June. Girls Aloud celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2022 and participated in the Race for Life in April in memory of the late Sarah Harding. Cheryl also made her West End debut in the thriller A Ghost Story 2:22 on February 1, 2023.
