Filming Bridgerton sex scenes was 'pretty liberating' for Nicola Coughlan

Bridgerton's sex scenes have been notorious since season one. There's a lot to look forward to in the upcoming episodes, but Season 3 won't disappoint with its steamy scenes. Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton Fan-favorite couple Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton ) (aka Pauline) will be in the spotlight next season, and Coughlan thinks they're "winning" the sass war, according to her March 28 appearance on UK talk show This Morning . "

Take control

Luckily, dear reader, filming the intimate scene wasn't too awkward for the two co-stars. Coughlan admits she found it "really nerve-wracking" at first, but their close relationship helped. "Thankfully, I've known Luke for four years and he's a super nice guy," she said. They can "laugh about it," she said, adding, "It's liberating and it's fun."

Bridgerton's intimacy coordinator played a key role in the process, with Coughlan shouting out that Liz Talbot's work was "fantastic". Additionally, Coughlan felt they heard her and Newton's voices while filming Penelope and Colin's intimate moments.

"Luke and I actually had a lot of say in what we wanted to do and we had our own ideas about how we wanted things to go," she said. "It was great because we really felt like we were in control of everything. .”

Parental guidance recommended

Although these graphic scenes were "liberating" to film, there were still moments that Coughlan and Newton wanted to skip. They flatly denied they would be watching the show on Ireland's Today FM with family and friends in February. In fact, Coughlan said she specifically "requested a PG version for [her] mom." Newton, meanwhile, said the second episode was just one of many he couldn't watch with his own mother.

"It will be significantly shorter," Coughlan quipped of the PG version.

Teasing Pauline Staines

Coughlan has been holding back on dropping some hints about what's to come until Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 premieres on May 16. In May 2022, when asked what fans could expect to see in season 3, she mentioned one of the most hilarious scenes from the "Bridgerton" books in an interview with ET, which made the actress laugh. Unforgettable, she used a simple but meaningful word: "mirror". Most recently, she used the mirror emoji in a video of Penelope and Colin getting closer.

Romance is also a big part of their story, an element Coughlan also touched on. She told People magazine in June that season three was "very romantic," adding that she felt it even while filming. "There were a lot of times on set where we were shooting something and we turned around and everyone was holding their chests and going, 'Oh my God.'" It was that kind of love," she said.
