In a Feb. 26 interview with The Zach Sand Show , Ariana Grande discussed the intense tabloid attention she received following her divorce from Dalton Gomez and revealed her relationship with Ethan ·Slater's new love interest.
Zach Sand believes Grande is using her new album Eternal Sunshine to speak to people who "draw their own conclusions" and "write their own narratives," and she agrees. "We all know this with the tabloids and the media. Am I crazy? Don't we know this?" she asked.
“This is what tabloids do to people, especially women, we selectively remember, depending on whether we like the person or not,” she continued. "We selectively leave room for humanity and nuance. They don't leave room for that. Well, they do it for friends and family. But when it's consistent with the version of someone they have in their head and they want to believe is true , they shut it down.”
Last year, Grande experienced a new wave of tabloid scrutiny. In July 2023, it was reported that she and her ex-husband Gomez had separated earlier that year and officially filed for divorce two months later. Around the same time, she was rumored to be having an affair with "Wicked " co-star Slater, who was playing Spongebob on Broadway and filed for divorce from his wife. Lily Jay, July.
Grande hinted that her upcoming album, due out on March 8, will tell her story while also playing characters created for her. "But I'm not saying this for them, I'm saying it for my fans, for myself," she said.
When asked by Sang if there was anything she wanted people to know, Grande said "a lot," but didn't go into specifics. “We don’t have enough time, but if you guys want to come and stay a night in La Masseria, please let me know,” she joked. "Of course, there's an insatiable frustration, an inexplicable, hellish feeling in seeing people misunderstand someone you love and yourself."
