This article explains the steps to connect your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch (OLED model) to your TV. Note: Nintendo Switch Lite does not support TV mode.
Collect these items to connect your Nintendo Switch to your TV. When you buy a Switch, everything except the TV should be included in the box.
- Nintendo Switch game console with Joy-Con
- Nintendo Switch Dock
- AC adapter
- HDMI cable
- Joy-Coy grip or wrist strap (optional)
- HDMI compatible TV
After preparing all the above materials, it only takes a minute to connect the Switch to the TV.
Place your Nintendo Switch base on a stable surface near the TV. Open the back cover of the docking station.
Connect the AC adapter to the AC adapter port (if it's not already connected), and then plug it into the wall outlet.
Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI output port on the back of the dock and the other end into the HDMI port on the back of the TV.
Close the dock's back cover while routing the cables through the opening.
Remove the Joy-Con controllers from the Switch. Press the button on the back of the Joy-Con and slide it up to remove it. Do the same with the second Joy-Con.
You can use the controller as-is, attach a wrist strap, or slide it into a Joy-Con grip. If you purchased a Joy-Con charging handle, you can also use it.
Place your Nintendo Switch into the dock. Make sure the screen is facing the front of the dock, where you can see the Nintendo Switch logo.
Power on the Switch and TV. Adjust the input to the corresponding HDMI port on your TV that you are using.
When the Switch is in the dock, its screen is off, but you should now see the Switch's screen on your TV. So, you should be ready to have fun!
If you want to disconnect your Nintendo Switch from your TV after playing a game, perform the above steps in reverse order.
You can then plug the dock back into the wall outlet, reconnect the Joy-Cons, and place the device in the dock to charge the Nintendo Switch and its controllers.
