Shirley looks very much like Marilyn Monroe

You may have heard by now that screen legend/most famous child star of all time Shirley Temple passed away on Monday. It's a sad day for her loved ones and fans of the classic film. It's also a weird day, like the fact that screen legend Shirley Temple looked an awful lot like screen legend Marilyn Monroe in her younger years.

Now, don’t jump to conclusions about this article — we’re not trying to start some old Hollywood conspiracy theory. But look at the photo below; there are some undeniable similarities in their looks. In fact, at first glance, I thought the woman on the right was a young Temple, but was actually Norma Jean Baker, pre-Marilyn Monroe.

I mean, look at them. It may be steeped in 1940s/1950s style - the hairstyles certainly do, and makeup trends may also play a role - but there's also a definite common heart-shaped face, lip and eye shape, nose curvature, etc.

What's interesting to me is that these women didn't resemble each other most of their lives. However, they do seem to have met in the middle: Temple spent her childhood as one of the most famous people in the world and then went on to live a relatively "normal" life; Monroe generally lived a relatively "normal" life , until her breakthrough in 1948 at the age of 22. Temple was born in 1928, just two years after Monroe.

Both women had a huge impact on the culture of their time - generations of women have wanted to be Shirley Temple as children and Marilyn Monroe as adolescence or adulthood. Obviously, their lives are complicated in large ways by this, but there's something calming about seeing their similarities.
