Selena Gomez & Kieran Culkin's SNL surprise featured Father of the Bride

If you're wondering how much Selena Gomez costs to be a wedding performer, look no further than the Dec. 10 episode of Saturday Night Live . Or even better? The answer lies in a Father of the Bride skit, in which co-hosts Steve Martin, Martin Short and Kieran Culkin perform in another riveting The character from Nancy Meyers' classic 1991 romantic comedy is recast in a surprise cameo. However, as Father of the Bride Part 8 quickly reveals, a lot has happened to the Banks family in the more than 30 years since the first film.

First, 52-year-old Anne (Heidi Gardner) has been divorced seven times and is preparing for another wedding. "Annie, what makes you think I can afford an eighth Nancy Meyers wedding? I'm financially drained," Martin said as titular patriarch George Banks. What's more, his wife Nina "started driving for Lyft" just to pay for Annie's previous wedding. Chloe Fineman does her best impression of 'beige icon' Diane Keaton, and she's 'back and looking more Diane Keaton than ever' pause".

As soon as George asks who's "planning this," Short appears as the beloved over-the-top wedding planner Frank, the narrator asks, with an accent we all agree is "not bad." He'll be joined by Bowen Yang, who replaces BD Wong's Howard, who lets George know he's in two shows with Annie's 5th Wedding, Shrimp Towers and Nicki Minaj Still maintaining excellent balance. After Frank criticizes Anne for being "second-hand," in need of some plucking, plumping, tugging, and maybe some surgery "down there," George asks him if he's serious about suggesting he pay for his "daughter's vaginal rejuvenation."

That's when Culkin showed up at the front door, reminding everyone that he played Marty Banks, Martin's son on screen, when he was about eight or nine years old. (“Did you forget that Kieran Culkin is in this movie? We forgot too,” the narrator hilariously says in the background, before adding, “Now that he’s in Succession , it’s a big deal for him. "It's so good.") He complained, "Uh... can we stop talking about my sister's private parts now? I think I might blow off a big chunk of it." If you want to feel older, Culkin's. Marty adds, "I'm not eating cake, I have a colonoscopy tomorrow." Then, in another moment, George refers to Annie as his "little menopausal girl."

But Frank's "big surprise" was, of course, that he hired the "more beautiful in real life" Gomez to be Annie's wedding singer. "How much is she going to cost me?" lamented George, whose "Only Murder in the Building " co-star revealed her salary was an "easily" $1.8 million. Finally, there was a group sing-along of Frank's Father of the Bride classic "Party Pooper."

Just this summer, HBO Max remade Father of the Bride in a new movie starring Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan as Cuban American parents, while "Saturday Night Live's" Fineman plays an eccentric wedding planner. "Obviously, I'm a huge fan of Nancy Meyers, but I really feel like this is a modern, relevant take on it," Fineman told Entertainment Weekly in June. "I randomly made my wedding planner younger—she's a willful millennial. I thought that was really interesting, in contrast to Andy Garcia's stubborn, traditional father. They're a huge vacancy, but I feel like it’s a modern take and I’m really excited about it.”
