46 years ago, Cher wore one of her most revealing looks ever

There is no more iconic duo in the fashion world than Cher and Bob Mackie. Legendary fashion designer Mackie was the mastermind behind many of the star's most bejeweled, extravagant and campest outfits during her illustrious five-decade career. Together they set some of today's most enduring fashion trends.

The Oscar-winning actor and singer collaborated with famed photographer Harry Langdon between 1978 and 1981 to create a series of stunning Mackie suits. The photos feature an outfit that remains one of her most revealing looks to date, proving that fashionistas like Kim Kardashian can run as Cher walks.

Cher's revealing top

Cher was one of the first stars to break free, donning a black mesh bodysuit with rhinestones back in 1978. A black skirt with a leg slit tied together with a silver chain belt completed her McKee-designed look.

Of course, the shoes are also dazzling. Cher wore silver strappy heels with more crystal embellishments on the toes.

Cher's underwear

In these photos, shot in a variety of fashion looks, Cher continues to push the envelope (at least in the 1970s).

On the same day she was photographed in rhinestones and mesh, Cher also donned some dainty lingerie, posing in a silky tan bodysuit with purple velvet trim and black floral embroidery.

Cher's iconic flame dress

While both of Mackie's outfits have gone down in fashion history, neither of them surpassed Cher's flame dress, which was made of shimmering asymmetrical yellow and orange fringed strips sewn together to look like fire. .

The look quickly became a hit (pun intended) in the fashion world, with music icon Tina Turner wearing it on stage later that year, and Beyoncé wearing it in 2005. It's brought back to the stage. The collective impact of Cher and Bob Mackie cannot be underestimated.
