Society Socks is the brainchild of Filip Pejic and Sergey Sapelnyk, two college students in Toronto who came up with the idea during their internships.
"We noticed that a lot of our colleagues were wearing bold dress socks," Pejic told Buster. "After developing an interest in stylish socks ourselves, we quickly realized that purchasing them could take a lot of time, and it was difficult to find a company that consistently produced bold socks suitable for both casual and work environments."
Philanthropy meshed with the company's ethos after Pejic and Sapelnyk read an interesting article about homelessness.
"We learned that socks are one of the least donated yet most needed items of clothing. Homeless shelters typically do not accept used socks as donations. Around the same time we were becoming more interested in the funky sock trend, we Knowing this, we decided to combine these two ideas to create a social impact business!” Pejic shares.
While it may seem like a small gesture, donating socks to a shelter is extremely important. Since the shelter only accepts new ones, they won't be thrown away like old winter coats or accessories like gloves and hats.
