If audiobooks aren't your thing, this new streaming plan from Spotify might be just what you need.
Audiobooks are a great way to "read" when you don't have time to read, but if you don't like them, then Spotify's latest subscription plan might suit you better.
Spotify seems to be trying to hit the sweet spot with audiobooks. After adding audiobooks in late 2023, Spotify spun off its "audiobooks only" tier in March. Now, according to the company's latest announcement, you can once again get a music-only streaming subscription, which is great if audiobooks aren't your thing.
The new Spotify subscription plan, simply called "Basic," eliminates the 15 hours of audiobook listening offered in other plans and drops the subscription price to $10.99 per month, but according to the release, this subscription is only available to US subscribers.
With the addition of the basic plan, Spotify now has 5 levels of subscription services:
- Premium Personal : This is the entry-level premium plan that offers music streaming, unlimited skips, and 15 hours of audiobook listening. Monthly cost is $11.99.
- Basic : This is the latest addition to the Spotify listening plan. It only includes music streaming benefits and makes no mention of the number of skips that may be included in the plan. The plan is priced at $10.99 per month.
- Premium Duo : This plan is a Premium individual plan, but for "two people living together." It includes everything in the Premium Personal plan with "less than two full-priced Premium Personal accounts." The plan is priced at $16.99 per month.
- Premium Family : This is another extension of the Premium Individual plan, but in this version, up to 6 people in the same family can share the benefits. Spotify also notes that each person has their own individual account "so recommendations are personalized based on each user's listening taste." The plan is priced at $19.99 per month.
- Audiobook Access : This audiobook-only tier lets you listen to 15 hours of audiobooks per month. You can still listen to music through Spotify, but the songs will be ad-supported. This level costs $9.99 per month.
