Months after tying the knot in a live televised ceremony, Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Teresa Nestor are divorcing. The couple announced their split during an interview on "Good Morning America" that aired on April 12, revealing that they had signed a prenuptial agreement.
“What struck me most during our conversation was the dedication both of us have to our families,” Gerry said. "So we look at the circumstances and I think for the happiness of each of us, living separately is the best option."
Teresa admitted that while the couple discussed moving to a shared home in South Carolina or New Jersey, they "never got to the point where we made that decision." (In fact, just last month, , fans were surprised to find out the couple hadn't moved in together yet.)
Gerry and Teresa confirmed in the interview that they still love each other, and she said reports about Gerry's past love life and career did not influence the decision to divorce. Even before they got married, several fans were hoping that Gerry and Teresa would get a prenuptial agreement to prevent such an outcome.
Gerry and Theresa's Pre-Wedding Advice
ABC reporter Juju Chang, who was interviewed by "Good Morning America," confirmed that Gerry and Teresa signed a prenuptial agreement. "They highly recommend it to others," she said, allaying fans' concerns about a potentially contentious divorce.
Julia Rodgers, a family law attorney and CEO of HelloPrenup, previously told Bustle that a prenuptial agreement would make sense for Gerry and Teresa, and indeed, for any couple. "People say money and love shouldn't mix - but it's true," she said. "Because what's in your bank account is going to determine how you live your life. When you're younger and have [more] earning power, it has less of an impact. But when you get married at an older age, you're already retired. So. , the content in these accounts will affect your lifestyle.”
To recap, Gerry is a retired restaurateur and Teresa is a securities professional. Gerry's financial career stood out during the Fantasy Suite discussion on "The Bachelor." “I felt like I was dealing with a really united group of people,” he said.
As for the golden maester gift…
As Rogers tells Bustle, couples can decide for themselves the content of a prenuptial agreement — including death provisions and other estate issues. But what happens to their golden maester gift? When asked about their rings, Teresa said she had to give up her new Neil Lane jewelry.
"Oh, I think that's the rule," she said. "I guess I have to return the ring, unfortunately."
Gerry added: "But you know what? We don't have to give back memories."
Gerry and Teresa were due to honeymoon in Italy in May, but it looks like the trip won't be happening.
