Why you recognize the voice of “Ambition Elf” on HR

The world of Big Mouth is constantly expanding. March 18 marks the premiere of HR , a spin-off of the Netflix original animated comedy The Hormone Monster . In addition to the hormonal monster Connie (played by Maya Rudolph), the wizard of shame (played by David Thewlis) and the newly introduced love bug (Brandon Kyle Goodman, Keke Palmer, In addition to big-mouthed characters such as Pamela Adlon), the show also introduced new creatures. This includes Petra the Ambition Gremlin, voiced by Rosie Perez.

"It's so funny. One of our writers, Mitra Jouhari, just randomly sent me Rosie's name. I was like, 'Yeah, that's it.' "It's the only voice we can imagine right now. She's perfect," HR co-founder Kelly Galuska said of casting Perez in Netflix press materials.

Perez is an industry veteran, best known for his roles in Do the Right Thing ( 1989) and White Men Can't Jump (1992) in the early '90s. And emerge. Since then, she has been a mainstay in the industry, appearing in films such as 2001's In Cars with Boys , 2008's Pineapple Express , and 2010's The Others , as well as Nurse , "Search Party" and "The Flight Attendant," among other shows. She has also branched out into franchises, playing Renee Montoya, one of the titular "birds," in the 2020 DC Comics film Birds of Prey .

In addition to his live-action roles, Perez has voiced roles in several productions over the years. Some of her most notable roles include Choni on The Cleveland Show, Click in Go, Diego! and Chel in the 2001 DreamWorks Animation adventure film Road to El Dorado . As Petra in HR , Perez represents a green, pointy-eared goblin who, as the name suggests, represents human ambition. She is described as a competitive, driven person who is not afraid to tell the truth. Her primary concern was to achieve success—sometimes to a fault, as she considered success and achievement to be more important than her clients' emotional needs.

While Petra doesn't appear much in the HR trailer, you can definitely feel her no-nonsense attitude. There's a quick shot of Petra kicking in a door, and a brief conversation during which Rochelle, voiced by Keke Palmer ( "No Liar "), nervously asks "What just happened?" "You messed everything up, that's what just happened," Petra replies. In fact, the trailer includes several scenes of Petra and Rochelle clashing while working for the same client. . Hopefully they can find a better balance by the end of the season.
