While everyone else is busy running around, missing trains, and arguing with partners, others are blissfully unaware that Mercury is retrograde. This time of year can be a big deal for some people, while for others it's just an ordinary day.
According to astrologer and spiritual counselor Wang Letao, Mercury retrograde is an astrological event that occurs three to four times a year, each lasting about three weeks. From our perspective on Earth, the planet appears to be moving backwards in its orbit at this time.
Since Mercury represents communication and technology, retrograde is often associated with travel mishaps, difficult conversations, and issues with emails, phone calls, etc. The two signs ruled by Mercury—Virgo and Gemini—are most likely to experience these types of intense side effects.
The time of year can also play a role. For example, Mercury goes retrograde during Aries season on April 1, 2024, which means all the Aries in the world may feel the struggle right away. That said, many zodiac signs won't be affected anyway, thanks to their rulers and laid-back personality traits.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
As an earth sign ruled by Venus, Taurus tends to take it easy during Mercury retrograde. "Taurus people are known for their unwavering nature and ability to stay grounded, no matter what chaos surrounds them," Wang said.
While they may seem annoyed if they encounter an unfortunate incident related to Mercury retrograde, such as if they text the wrong friend, they definitely won't let it ruin their day.
"Their ruler Venus, which symbolizes love, beauty and money, often acts as a protective buffer, helping them maintain a calm and collected demeanor during these times," he says.
Other signs might find themselves panicking about being late for work or struggling to send an email, but Taurus will sigh and accept their fate—many will even close their laptops and take it as a sign to take a day off. Mercury retrograde is a good excuse for the Bulls to continue moving at their own very slow pace.
Scorpio (October 23rd - November 21st)
Wang said that as a sign co-ruled by Pluto and Mars, Scorpios tend to view Mercury retrograde as a deep, introspective period, and he calls these three weeks a "cosmic pause." When water signs feel a change in the air, they immediately start journaling, thinking, and taking long, contemplative walks.
"Scorpio's strategic and often intense approach to life allows them to navigate the dark waters of Mercury retrograde with a sense of purpose and transformation," he says. Rather than seeing it as a time of misfortune and chaos, they tend to explore the oddities and think about what they need to change.
As Wang says, "While miscommunications and technical glitches can be frustrating for many, Scorpio's innate resilience and desire for depth can guide them to uncover hidden truths and understanding during this time of reflection."
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
Oddly enough, Sagittarius almost looks forward to Mercury retrograde. They like that it injects a bit of chaos into their lives—and they also trust that everything will work out in the end.
"This fickle fire sign, ruled by Jupiter, the planet of luck, expansion, and understanding, tends to view Mercury retrograde as just another adventure," Wang says. This sign is known for its flexible and philosophical approach to life, so if they miss a train or a flight is delayed, they might even be happy about it.
Instead of crying or canceling the trip, they'll book a new flight or take a nap and wait it out. Unlike other signs that cannot handle unpredictability, Sagittarius embraces it.
Mercury retrograde can also be a time of reflection for this sign. According to Wang, many Sagittarians have epiphany moments that leave them feeling renewed.
