13 2016 Movies Every Romantic Will Love

So far, 2016 has been a good movie year for romantic movies - we've already had a Hollywood-approved Nicholas Sparks movie ( The Choice ) and an indie rom-com ( Song Street ) ), but it's not quite epic yet. Based on the first six months of the year, it's fair to say that the movie industry has traded in romantic movies for superhero spectacles and buddy comedies. Ah, but the second half of 2016 is coming to the rescue for romance lovers everywhere. Audiences craving a little on-screen love finally have a reason to flock to theaters to watch these 13 movies that every romantic should look forward to.

Upcoming romance movies in 2016 include comedies, science fiction, and dramas, so expect lots of laughs, special effects, and tears (not necessarily in that order). We all know that romantic dramas come in all different shapes and sizes, some prefer period dramas and others prefer romantic comedies. But no matter what you're into, there's a 2016 movie to satisfy your romantic needs. Now, if you're like me and love all kinds of romance, then you might want to watch all 13 of these movies coming out in the second half of the year. Whether you've seen them all or just one, I guarantee your favorite romantic movies of 2016 are in this collection.

1. Coffee Society – July 15

Woody Allen's latest romantic comedy may make some viewers cringe, and that's all thanks to Allen. But if you're the kind of person who can ignore a director's personal life, a coffee commune might be a safe bet to satisfy your romantic desires.

2. Equal to - July 15

Equals combines romance with sci-fi, perfect for viewers who can't get enough of love at first sight stories. Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult star as two people who fall in love despite living in an emotionless society. Therefore, they are not only soul mates, but also forbidden love. I'm already dizzy.

3. Florence Foster Jenkins – August 12

Florence Foster Jenkins is more of a biopic than a romance, but if you ask me, this one about a wannabe opera singer (played by Meryl Streep ) and the husband (played by Hugh Grant) who helped her realize her dream is quite romantic.

4. Outrage – July 29

Based on the novel by Philip Roth, "The Indignation" is a drama first and a romance second, so don't go to the theater expecting a 1950s romance.

5. Southside With You—— August 26

Before we get into all the election craziness that is sure to come in the fall, Southside With You will show you a lighter, more romantic side of our current President, Barack Obama, as he spends time with current First Lady Michelle Obama Michelle Obama's first date.

6. The light between the oceans - September 2

Based on the book by ML Stedman, The Light Between Oceans tells the tragic story of a young couple who rescue an infant, only to encounter the baby's biological family. The film stars Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender, so, you know, romance is everywhere. (Note: You will need paper towels.)

7. Bridget Jones’ Baby – September 16

Bridget Jones is back and she's pregnant. In typical Bridget fashion, she was also involved in a love triangle with Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth. Yeah, it's not bad being her.

8. Love – November 4

Love tells the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, who were arrested for marrying in 1958 because they were of different races - Richard was white and Mildred was black . The couple finally decided to get married in 1967, following the Supreme Court's decision in Loving v. Virginia, which made interracial marriage the law of the land. The film may be more of a historical drama than a romance, but what's more romantic than fighting for love?

9. “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” – November 18

Okay, so when you think of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , your first thought is probably Harry Potter, not romance. However, the film will chronicle the moment Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) met his future wife Popentina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston).

10. Allies – November 25

Not much is known about "League ," a period romance set in 1942 Casablanca starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. It's also a spy thriller, so if you like Casablanca , The League is probably a safe bet.

11. “La La Land” – December 2

Romantic comedy musical starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. You don't need to know anything else.

12. The space between us – December 21

For the younger crowd, The Space Between Us is a romance spanning the galaxy, or at least the solar system, about a boy raised on Mars who travels to Earth to find the girl of his dreams.

13. Passenger - December 21

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt fell in love in space. Passengers, which seems to be in the news forever, was one of the last big romantic movies released in 2016. Granted, this space adventure may be more action-packed than your average love story, but Lawrence and Pratt are in it so, I'm pretty happy with the movie's romantic potential.

Who's ready to go to the movies and see love as it is? I'll see you there.
