Many UK restaurants continue to eat out in response to September difficulties

The Government announced the Eat Out to Help Out scheme at the start of August to get people back into pubs, cafes and restaurants. Although it is scheduled to end on August 31, some venues have decided to extend the Eat Out to Help Out offer. While these deals aren't part of the government scheme, you can still get a midweek dinner on the cheap. Here's how to find them.

The Eat Out to Help Out (EOHO) scheme offers people 50% off food and soft drinks, up to a total of £10. This applies to individuals in selected venues from Monday to Wednesday, meaning a family of five can receive up to £50 off the cost of meals. While the scheme has received some criticism, it is widely seen as a success, with government figures showing 35 million meals were purchased through the scheme in the first two weeks alone.

Stephen Wall, managing director and co-founder of Pho, said of the scheme: "The 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme is really great. It's great to see our restaurants full of happy staff and customers again. It's for sure This has benefited our figures from the start of the week and appears to have encouraged the British public to eat out safely as our restaurants filled up and stayed busy throughout the weekend."

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has recommended that Chancellor Rishi Sunak extend the scheme until September to provide some additional support to businesses, but at the time of writing (26 August) it has not been confirmed whether this will happen. However, some restaurants have taken matters into their own hands and are keeping these deals in place despite no longer receiving government support. Our favorites include:

  • Manchester's Peru Perdu will offer EOHO deals throughout September
