Five years ago, Bella Hadid wore her wildest Met Gala look ever

The 2024 Met Gala is over, but some of the chicest emerald green looks are still making the rounds on social media, cementing their place among the best-dressed in the event's history. However, there is one outfit that is forever etched in my mind, and it wasn't even from a recent bash.

Bella's sparkly little black dress

In 2019, Bella Hadid attended the Met Gala wearing a little black dress with large cutouts, one of which highlighted her hips. At that point, the supermodel had been attending the annual event for four years, and she went low-key for the Met Gala: Her ode to that year's theme, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," was completely inspired by the designer's The choice comes to her charm.

While other attendees took on the theme with plenty of OTT looks that took up literal space, Hadid went against the grain, wearing a form-fitting little black dress. However, her little black dress was the most extravagant you've ever seen.

Hadid wore a faux mermaid silhouette designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino with a subtle asymmetrical neckline detail. It has a rounded sweetheart neckline on one side and a plunging V-shaped neckline on the other, with shoulder straps sticking out diagonally. The sides, from the straps to the neckline, are completely encrusted with crystals.

However, another asymmetric feature of the little black dress is much more obvious. The gown featured two huge cutouts: one at the waist, set with huge red stones, and another at the hip, set with blue stones.

Her OTT fireworks

Because no one camped like Scott, the dizzying things didn't end there. Hadid also wore opera gloves that were completely covered in gemstones. Showing off to the extreme, the fireworks climbed from her wrists to her armpits like a tower of bracelets. Dressed in jewelry, she also wore large emerald teardrop earrings.

Hadid made the Met Gala look playful and dignified, a feat only she could accomplish. Even Scott, who shared the inspiration for the dress in a previous interview with Bustle, thinks so.

To capture "the drama of her natural physique," he decided to "dress her in a classic black corseted evening gown." To balance out the more timeless little black dress, he decided to "start with tailoring and jewelry to give it the drama that only she could bring."

Her elfin charm

To show off her charm, Hadid took her hairstyle back to the 1980s, debuting a stylish pixie cut with exaggerated side swings. The look was reminiscent of another modeling guru, Linda Evangelista, and her famous 1989 makeover.

Her jewelry retained the bold hue, and her makeup was more desaturated, with her most striking feature being an exaggerated cat eye.

One is for books.
