Supernatural ended less than two years ago — but if you've been a die-hard fan of the show since its early days (maybe even the Tumblr #superwholock days), it wouldn't have been possible without the Winchesters. That's been too long. Luckily, your favorite monster hunting family will be back. The " Supernatural" prequel "The Winchesters" officially received a pilot order on the February 3 deadline.
If you're having a serious case of déjà vu right now (like, didn't we already know a spinoff was coming?), don't worry. You're not wrong—the spinoff was first announced last summer to be in development. The latest news simply means that The CW is officially interested enough in making a pilot and hopefully working on a real series later on.
Of course, there was drama before the highly-anticipated spin-off hit production. When Jensen Ackles announced the project and returned to the role of Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki, who plays Dean's younger brother, expressed disappointment that his spot wasn't filled first. "Man. So happy for you. Wish I could hear about this in a way other than Twitter," he tweeted at the time.
Wondering what the new spinoffs will bring? Here's everything you should know so far about Supernatural prequel The Winchesters , including plot and possible release date.

As Deadline reported last summer, the Supernatural prequel will center around Sam and Dean's parents, but will be "told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester." According to the official synopsis, " The Winchesters is an epic, untold love story about how John met Mary and how they risked everything to save not just their love, but the world."
The Winchesters cast
Ackles will narrate the show, with new faces taking on the lead roles of the Winchesters . According to The Hollywood Reporter , Meg Donnelly and Derek Rodger will play Mary Winchester and John Winchester, originally cast by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith in Supernatural. Donnelly is best known for his role on ABC's family comedy " American Housewife ," while Roger was last seen in the Paramount+ original movie "The Middle."
Sadly (but not surprisingly), Padalecki has yet to be announced for a new spinoff. He previously tweeted that he was "disappointed that Sam Winchester didn't have any involvement," but appears to have moved beyond all of the aforementioned drama. In fact, in a later tweet, he said "the show is still in its early stages and has a long way to go" and that he and Ackles "will always be brothers." So the possibility of his involvement still feels somewhat reasonable.
Winchester Brothers release date possibilities
The Winchesters have only received a pilot order so far, which means when (or if) we'll actually see the show remains a mystery. Casting and filming for the first episode should take place during the pilot season, and if the show is ultimately picked up by The CW, The Winchesters could debut this fall.
This article will be updated with trailers, release dates, and other plot details as more information about the Winchesters becomes available .
