Here’s Your Prescription for “Royal Pain” Withdrawal

The Royal Pain Season 8 finale will air on Wednesday, July 6 at 10pm, and unfortunately, it will also serve as the series finale. As Deadline reported in March, Royal Pain will not be returning for a ninth season, and honestly, this finale couldn't come at a better time for fans of the show. It's the height of summer, there's not much else on the air right now, and Hard to Get is the perfect antidote to the rising temperatures. But even if Hank doesn't return to the U.S. (and may even leave the Hamptons with Boris in the finale), the television landscape has changed a lot since the show premiered in 2009.

For example, at the time, Netflix didn't have any original programming, there was no Amazon Prime Video, and summer was a complete dead zone for new shows. However, there are now over a dozen ways to watch TV 24/7 year-round, and with a slightly above-average number of summer premieres, no longer forcing you to go out any time of the year. That's a very roundabout way of putting it: Royal Pain fans need not worry, because there are plenty of other shows to watch this summer that will help you get over the loss of one of your favorites. It won't completely heal the wound, but if you can't get a call from a concierge, marathoning some of these shows should make you feel a lot like your old self.

Ray Donovan

The Donovan family at the center of this Showtime series are certainly scrappier than Hank's team and don't have his wealth, but they deal with the same wealthy, successful clients -- see their over-the-top privilege mirror that of "Royal Pain" no difference. Plus, Jon Voight plays an eccentric father who could rival Henry Winkler's father.

zoo

It's a strange show that mixes dark intrigue with a wacky premise (what if humans... turned into animals). It should definitely provide some suspense to distract you from the pain of losing Royal Pain .

shooter

If your favorite Hard to Get plot is in the United States, then I have two great recommendations for you: The first is The Shootist , a new series about a sniper caught up in a government conspiracy.

mr robot

The second one is Mr. Robot . Now this show is definitely very different from Royal Pain , but there are some slight similarities, mainly in the first season where Mr. Robot made some changes to the program format.

Dr. Thorne

I'm sure a lot of Royal Pain fans love medical dramas, so here's one you might not have found yet: Amazon Prime's Thorne , a new drama from Julian Fellowes, the man behind "Downton Abbey" 's TV series. This is a period piece about a poor woman living on an estate with her uncle (a doctor) in the 1850s.

life is the beach

If the only thing you love about Royal Pain is the beach scenes: here's the Travel Channel series for you: Life is the Beach , which celebrates those who give up their dreary day jobs to pursue life's dreams on the coast. I could have suggested actually going to the beach to scratch that itch, but why bother when you can have all the fun from your air-conditioned couch?
