Rihanna subtly announces pregnancy at Super Bowl

Rihanna is pregnant, a rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on February 12. The news began amid speculation during her Super Bowl halftime performance, when the "Diamonds" singer repeatedly rubbed her midriff. Many fans are reminded of Beyoncé's pregnancy reveal at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, when the musician revealed her pregnancy after performing "Love on Top."

However, clues about Rihanna's pregnancy seemed to have been planted long before the big game — and somehow, we all missed it. In an interview with NFL Network, Rihanna revealed she was "thinking about bringing someone" to her show. Many fans naturally thought Rihanna was referring to another musician, and since she's collaborated with so many artists throughout her career, a surprise cameo or two would make sense. But the surprise guest at Rihanna's Super Bowl performance will only be available in bump form for now.

The exciting news comes nine months after Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child, but they have yet to reveal their son's name. Rihanna revealed during a recent press conference that as a new mother, she hesitated when deciding to attend the Super Bowl.

"I was like, are you sure? Like, I'm three months postpartum, should I make a big decision like this now? Like, I might regret it," Rihanna recalled. "But something happens when you become a mother and you feel like you can take on the world. You can do anything. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. Even though it's scary because I've It’s been seven years since I’ve been on stage, but it’s exciting to face the challenge of it all.”

In hindsight, Rihanna's comments about motherhood make the Super Bowl truth all the more obvious — and exciting. Granted, this likely means fans will have to wait for Rihanna's much-anticipated world tour, which many hope will be announced after the halftime show. But then again, maybe not! If Rihanna's recent interviews are any indication, she's been feeling especially strong and ready to "work" since welcoming her first child.

If you've been following Rihanna lately, you know that having a big family has always been a priority for her. In a 2020 Vogue interview, she shared her desire to have three or four children by her 40s. A year ago, she told Extra it was her "dream" to become a mother.
