Surprising anecdotes about Britney Spears' life are emerging ahead of the singer's highly anticipated memoir, The Woman In Me .
In excerpts from the book obtained by People , Britney opens up about the body shaming she experienced during her 14-year conservatorship — including from her own family.
Britney wrote that the days of "resistance" to her pop star image were over after a court ordered her conservatorship in 2008, and her father, Jamie Spears, was particularly vocal about how she presented herself Not shy.
"If I thought it was bad that the media was criticizing my body, it hurt my dad even more," she wrote. "He told me repeatedly that I looked fat and that I had to do something about it."
Britney never feels good enough
In excerpts from her memoir published by People magazine, the Grammy winner recalled being told as a child that she was "never good enough" and described the experience as "a heartbreaking state of being."

In another excerpt from "The Woman In Me" shared by People , the singer recalled how she felt infantilized during the aforementioned conservatorship, with her father controlling her finances and sense of freedom.
"I became a robot. But not just a robot - a child robot," she wrote. "I was losing something that made me feel like myself. Supervision took away my womanhood and turned me into a child."
Jamie was removed from his role as conservator of his daughter in September 2021, just months before the conservatorship ended completely in November of that year.
