The Eras tour didn't make any stops over the weekend of April 8, but there was some big news for the "Lavender Haze" singer: Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn , according to multiple reports (Joe Alwyn) broke up. Entertainment Tonight reported the news, citing a source who said "the relationship just came to an end." Bustle reached out to representatives for Swift and Alwyn for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
The outlet said the split was "not serious" and actually happened a few weeks ago. ET adds that this may explain why Alwyn wasn't one of the many celebrity guests at Swift's first few Eras Tour shows.
Neither Swift nor Alwyn have publicly commented on reports of their breakup. However, if you've been following their relationship for a while, you'll know this isn't surprising - as they've always been known for taking a private approach. In fact, one of Swift's recent public comments about Alwyn explicitly mentioned this. "Like my six-year relationship, we had to hide from the weird rumors, the tabloids, but we just ignored them," she said of the inspiration for "Lavender Mist" in October. “So this song is about the act of ignoring those things in order to protect what’s real.”
As recently as August 2022, a source told Us Weekly that Swift and Alwyn were "very happy" and "excited about their future together."
Swift and Alwyn were first spotted together in 2017, and Alwyn confirmed the relationship in an interview with Vogue the following year. However, the couple were also cautious about what they shared at the time. "I know people want to know this side of the story," he said. "I think we've managed to be very private and that's now accepted."
While many of Swift's songs starting with "Reputation" are obvious tributes to Alwyn, the "Conversations with Friends" star wasn't just Swift's musical muse — he was also her collaborator, most recently using He assumed the pseudonym William Bowery and co-wrote several songs on "With Friends" with Swift. The past few years: From “Betty” to the devastating “Champagne Problems” to the understated love song “Sweet Nothing.”
Swift and Alwyn reportedly split a few weeks ago, so it seems Swift has been performing her Eras Tour tracks and secret songs since the breakup. Of course, after the news broke, Swift will be the first to see the musician during her April 13 show in Tampa.
