Joey King's sheer bustier gown is unexpectedly princess-like

Sheer looks are nothing new, but they've become absolutely ubiquitous in recent years. Luckily, celebrities are still finding ways to take this trend in interesting directions. At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Joey King looked sexy and princess-like in a sheer bustier gown — a combination she never knew was possible.

Kim attended the festival's second week and quickly fell in love with the star-studded event. After her first day, she described it on Instagram as "so awesome," adding, "The love for art is so alive here." Her first try was on May 24 in The Most Precious Cargo ” premiere, she debuted a show-stopping look on the red carpet.

Not an ordinary princess dress

King's gown was custom-made by Cong Tri and featured a blue color reminiscent of Cinderella's iconic ballgown. The bodice has a princess-like glow, but the rest of it isn't quite Disney-esque. The columnar silhouette hugs the hips, and the fabric on the torso and legs is extremely sheer.

The contrast works well for King. She thanked Cong Tri for the gown on Instagram and praised its design. "I feel sexy and like a princess," she wrote. "I don't know if both goals can be achieved at the same time."

finishing touches

King insisted on coordinating Bruce from head to toe. Her earrings and ring were accented with matching gemstones, and her pointed open-toe pumps were in the same hue. Even her nails were a perfect silvery blue.

As for hair and makeup, Kim kept it low-key. She wore her hair down sideways in loose but structured waves that hinted at old Hollywood glamor. Meanwhile, white and charcoal eyeshadow peeks out from her lids, and her lips are better than mine.

"What a great first day," Kim gushed in her caption. "Can't wait for tomorrow."

appropriate follow-up actions

Kim has more Cannes surprises in store. On May 25, when she attended the closing ceremony, she wore another stunning dress that combined modern and classic elements. This time, she wore a pale yellow dress with a scoop neck, a slit in the back and a bow keyhole at the waist. She paired the dress with sheer opera gloves that looked like they were dripping with crystals.

Her trip to Cannes may have been quick, but she made the most of it.
