Emmys honor Matthew Perry with heartwarming performance

The "Friends" star was honored at the 75th Emmy Awards on January 15, nearly three months after Matthew Perry's death on October 28.

With the awards show postponed from 2023 due to a writers' and actors' strike, the show's executive producer Jesse Collins previously told Variety that the show planned to honor the "Friends" star and five-time Elvis star in a special way. Salute to the award nominees.

Collins told the media: "Matthew Perry's death is a huge loss for all of us and we are working hard to create a moment to shine a light on him and give him his due as we have lost this year Like many people." Exit.

This meaningful moment occurs during the annual “Remembering” portion of the ceremony. During a performance of 2015's "See You Again," Charlie Puth sang the familiar refrain from " Friends" theme song "I'll Be There for You" with duo The War and Treat Song. The tribute ended with a collage of Perry's photos and all the characters in a touching montage.

Fans watching on X (formerly Twitter) were shocked by the Friends tune change. "He will always be with us," one viewer said through tears. Another reviewer described the musical nod as a "beautiful and touching choice."

Perry's "Friends" stars — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — previously appeared on the show on October 30 Perry was remembered in a joint statement, telling People they were "absolutely devastated" by the loss.

Each of Perry's "Friends" alums posted their own post for Perry. Aniston, for her part, referred to the late actor as her "little brother" in a tribute posted on Instagram. "This was a chosen family that forever changed who we were and the path forward," she wrote of their time together in Friends.
