Emma Stone says she wants people to call her by her real name

Emma Stone is embracing her pre-Hollywood life. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter , the actor revealed that she would "like" to use her first name, Emily, rather than her stage name.

When asked if she would correct a fan who called her Emily, Stone told the outlet: "No. That would be really nice," adding that her colleagues "when I know them" They all called her Emily. The actor also explained that she changed her name to Emma early in her career because Emily Stone was "taken" by another actor and SAG member.

"A few years ago I freaked out," she continued. "For some reason, I was like, 'I can't do this anymore. Just call me Emily.'"

This isn't the first time Stone has discussed her real name. The Oscar winner revealed on "The Graham Norton Show" in 2014, "My name is Emily, but that was when I became an actress, so now it's Emma."

In 2018, she explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she had previously wanted to be called by her stage name because of her favorite hottie, Baby Spice, aka Emma Bunton.

"Growing up, I was super blonde and my real name was Emily, but because of Baby Spice I wanted to be called Emma," she said. "Guess what? Now me."

She clarified that "Baby Spice" was "not necessarily" the only reason she ever liked her Hollywood name. "Did I go to my teacher on my first day in second grade and ask her to call me Emma? Yes, I did. Was it because of Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls? Yes."
