The highly anticipated Suits spin-off Suits has officially been developed.
According to "People" , NBCUniversal has approved the pilot episode of the series, which will be produced by "Suits" creator Aaron Korsh. While it's unclear if the original cast will star in the spinoff, it's been confirmed that Suits will be set in the same universe.
The spinoff will center on former federal prosecutor Ted Black, who represents some of Los Angeles' most powerful clients.
"His company is in crisis, and in order to survive, he must accept a role he has despised throughout his career," the synopsis for the series reads. "Ted is surrounded by a cast of extraordinary characters who test them all. Loyalty to Ted and each other, while they couldn't help but mix their personal and professional lives."
"Suits" is directed by Victoria Mahoney and is expected to start filming in March 2024 in Vancouver, Canada.
“Really fun and happy”
Details of the upcoming Suits spinoff were first revealed in November 2023, when Universal Studios and UCP president Beatrice Springborn teased that Suits Los Angeles " Very fun and happy”.
" We're working on it now," Springborn revealed, promising that the new show will have "the same energy and handsome characters as the original show."
Some of the original cast of "Suits" have expressed interest in reprising their roles in the spinoff, including Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross on the hit legal drama.
"If we get the call, if I get the call, I'm ready to suit up again," Adams told Entertainment Tonight in January 2024. "I love this show, I love this character. I love working with all these people."
Fit for the streaming wave
"Suits ," which aired for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019, followed college dropout Mike Ross (J. Adams) and one of New York City's top lawyers, Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht) working together.
The show, starring Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, broke streaming records four years after its 2023 finale, ultimately becoming the most-watched acquired series on Netflix — —The platform garnered 3 billion minutes of viewing time in its first week alone.
