Can you have multiple YouTube channels?

YouTube allows you to create multiple channels using one email address. Simply log into your existing account and click a few buttons to set up a new channel. If desired, you can also tie a brand account to your personal account, which you can use for business or branding purposes.

If you just want to keep your home videos out of the public eye, you can use a regular YouTube account and adjust the privacy settings for individual videos. However, if your content has two different audiences, it's better to set up different channels.

In the past, you needed to create a separate YouTube account for each viewer, and this method still works. To do this, simply create a new Gmail account for each YouTube channel you want to create.

However, this is not the only – nor necessarily the best – option. Another way to get multiple YouTube channels is to click on the New Channel option from your existing account.

Another type of account you can get on YouTube is a brand account. They are a bit like Facebook Pages in that they are separate accounts managed by your personal account agent - usually for business purposes.

When using a YouTube Brand Account, there is no connection to your personal Google Account, and you can share management of the account or manage it yourself.

The instructions below are for creating a new regular YouTube channel, so if you plan to create a brand account, you'll need different instructions.

You can set up and manage up to 100 channels from a single Google Account. Here are the steps you need to take to achieve this in your YouTube channel list.

  1. Access your channel list and log into your YouTube account if asked.

  2. Click Create New Channel .

If you already manage a YouTube channel, you'll see it listed here and can click on it to switch to that channel. If you already have a Brand Account but haven't set it up as a YouTube channel, you'll see a separate name listed under Brand Account . Select it.

  3. Give your new account a name and click Create .

  4. You'll be immediately taken to a new channel where you can customize your account and upload videos.

You can manage this new YouTube channel just like your personal account. Any comments you make on videos from this account will appear as coming from that account, not any of your other accounts.

Consider adding a different channel icon (the user profile image on YouTube) to distinguish which account you are using. Taking this step will also make it easier for you to keep track of the accounts you're actively logged into, and will also allow subscribers and visitors to differentiate between your accounts.

Use the channel switcher link in step 1 above to switch between accounts, or click on your profile picture > select Switch Account > and select the account you want to view.
