The entire premise of The Amazing Race is that teams compete around the world trying to be the first to cross the finish line. The show has aired for 31 seasons and has traveled to many countries. Host Phil Keoghan has told Bustle that he has traveled to more than 100 countries, thanks in part to his time on the show. So you can bet on where The Amazing Race will be 31 is also quite spectacular.
For some of this season's contestants, the travel part of the show is new to them. Season 31 features stars from Survivor, Big Brother and The Amazing Race . While "Survivor" takes place on an island, "Big Brother" is filmed entirely in a house. Going from this point to racing across multiple countries is a huge transition. "In The Amazing Race , people aren't limited to houses or islands, the competition takes place all over the world," Keoghan said in a Facebook video.
But since there are nearly 200 countries in the world, even the Tibet Autonomous Region has not been to all of them. Speaking to Rob Has A Podcast, Keoghan said he still has many places on his schedule, including Nepal, Antarctica and Antigua - his childhood home.
Season 31 doesn't stop at these locations, but there's always hope for next year. Until then, here's where Keoghan and the rivals will be headed this season.
Hermosa Beach, California
According to "Reality TV World", the contestants began the competition in Hermosa Beach, California, USA.
Tokyo, Japan
Contestant Rachel Reilly posted a sneak peek on Twitter, where she and her sister confirmed Tokyo was on the list of places to travel.
Dutch
Contestants took part in a "bull lifting" competition in Kampen, Netherlands, according to local newspapers. Don't worry, the cow is fake.
Croatia
The European city is present at the show this year, the Examiner reports.
England
The Examiner also reported that England is the filming location for Season 31.
Dubai
Keoghan told CBS San Francisco that Dubai is on the travel list this year. "I would say the places we go are as big stars as any of the players," he told the media.
Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam
Keoghan told the Rob Has A podcast that the racers traveled to Ho Chi Minh City, which is apparently the motorcycle capital of the world.
Uganda
CBS San Francisco further reported that contestants this season will travel to Uganda, Africa. Keoghan said in that interview that traveling around the world can make things challenging.
"You can't control what's going on in the world. On other shows, there's a controlled environment, but on 'The Amazing Race ,' there's now a way to keep the outside world out. If a flight is canceled, or there's bad weather or Political unrest, or a festival in the street that delays traffic – there’s nothing you can do about it, you just adapt.”
Switzerland
In the same CBS interview, Keoghan said they also traveled to Switzerland.
Laos
Keoghan told "Rob Has A Podcast" that the show is heading to Laos for the first time in its history and that new locations are always a priority for the show. "Generally speaking, what you see in the background is always new and different and fresh," Keoghan said on the podcast. “People really enjoy seeing new places on our show.”
Detroit, Michigan
According to the Detroit Free Press , the show's finale took place in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
Keoghan's catchphrase on the show is "The world's waiting for you," and that's true throughout the season's locations. The host said on "Rob Has A Podcast" that he has a goal for each season of the show. "Hopefully this will inspire more people to want to get out and travel around the world," he said. Now, people watching Season 31 will have a whole new list of places to add to their travel bucket list.
