How to use Snapchat’s new Screenshop feature

Have you ever come across an incredible brand fit photo that features a top or bag that you just have to have, but the person who posted it is a gatekeeper to where they got it? A new shopping tool from Snapchat aims to correct this extremely rude mistake. The feature, called Screenshop, lets you buy screenshots from Pinterest, e-commerce sites, celebrity looks, and even clear-enough TikTok #OOTDs (get it?). The algorithm pulls recommended similar items, including convincing scams, and even lets you know which items happen to be on sale.

On April 28, it was announced during Snap’s annual keynote that Screenshop would join Snapchat’s existing shopping features. The technology isn't entirely new: Screenshop began as a standalone app for identifying clothing and accessories, which Snap acquired in April 2021. In August 2021, Snap upgraded Scan, an in-app feature that allows users to point the camera at, say, a dog and identify its breed, identifying and suggesting clothing similar to those in the picture. Screenshop is different in that it scans your memory for screenshots you already have and makes them available for purchase.

Ready to shop your #inspo folder? Here's how to use Snapchat's new Screenshop tool.

How to use Screenshop on Snapchat

To use Screenshop on Snapchat, open your camera and go to Memories (the two cards to the left of the camera button). Click Screenshot under Search in the options tray at the top of the screen. You will be prompted to upload a stylish screenshot. Assuming Snapchat has access to your phone's camera roll, it will scan your screenshots for #OOTD, images from e-commerce sites, photos you've taken, and more. Once all of this is taken care of, you can click on the screenshot of the one you want to purchase to see your selection of apps. You can also view screenshots sorted by category (such as tops or outerwear), or just scroll through all recent screenshots.

Why isn't Screenshop on my Snapchat?

The new shopping feature should already be rolling out for US iOS users. (Sorry, Android users.) If you don't see the feature, try quitting and restarting Snapchat, or checking the App Store for an available update. You can also turn your phone on and off for quick startup. If that fails, be patient; you can always shop the old-fashioned way.
