AOL Mail is down...or is this just you?

If you can't check AOL mail, AOL may be down, or there may be a problem with your own Internet connection. Sometimes it's hard to tell which: Is AOL Mail for everyone, or just you? Thankfully, with just a few quick checks, you can find out what it is.

If everyone's AOL Mail goes down, there's not much to do except wait for service to be restored. Here are the most common ways to check if a service is down:

  1. Check out DownDetector's AOL page. This site monitors the network status of many sites and services and is a great place to start. It will tell you if the website is having issues or is functioning properly.

  2. If you're still unsure, you can check out other websites such as IsItDownRightNow or Outage.Report.

  3. You can also check out the AOL Mail Team's X (formerly Twitter) feed. The Mail team will keep this feed updated with information about service outages and issues. Alternatively, if you're having trouble, the #aolmaildown hashtag might also provide some information.

If you have problems connecting to any of these sites, or no one else has noticed any problems with AOL Mail, the problem may be with your own connection.

If AOL Mail seems to be working for everyone but you, you can do the following to troubleshoot and resolve your issue:

  1. If you are using a web browser, make sure you are visiting the correct location and did not enter the wrong URL: you should try visiting http://mail.aol.com.

  2. If you're using the mobile app, make sure you're using the official AOL Mail app for iPhone or the AOL Mail app for Android.
