You can now share the songs you're listening to on BeReal

It's time to get serious about the music in your playlists. The social media platform famous for having no filters is rolling out a new feature that lets you share what you're listening to as you listen to BeReal every day. You have to subscribe to the streaming service to use the feature, though, so if you're ready to really get into your music tastes, here's what you need to know about the new Spotify music sharing feature on BeReal.

If you thought releasing your Spotify Wrapped results at the end of the year was telling, wait until the BeReal alarm goes off and you're listening to your guilty pleasure songs for the third day in a row. The feature, released on April 19, allows you to connect your Spotify and BeReal accounts so you can finally take your BeReals to the next level, no matter how embarrassing it may be. By connecting your accounts, when the infamous "It's Time To BeReal" alarm goes off, the song or podcast you're listening to is automatically shared along with your unedited photos of the day. So no, you can't choose a less cringeworthy song to include in your post - after all, the point is to be real . The audio won't play in the app, but followers will be able to listen to the preview. A text box with the song title and artist will also appear at the bottom of BeReal, which you can click to listen to the song on Spotify.

The feature also appears to have been created with Apple Music in mind, as it also appears as an option under Settings, though it's unclear if the feature will be available to subscribers of the streaming service as of April 19 .

So, what do you need to do to connect the two accounts, and how can you start incorporating music into your daily BeReals? Here's an overview of how it works, so you can finally have a soundtrack to go with your realistic, everyday posts.

How to connect your Spotify and BeReal accounts

There are three things you can do to sync your account. If you want to set it up before the next BeReal alarm sounds, all you have to do is:

  1. Update the BeReal app to the latest version
  2. Open the BeReal app
  3. Click the profile icon in the upper right corner
  4. Click the three-dot icon in the upper right corner
  5. Select the "Audio" option under "Features"
  6. Click the "Connect" button next to Spotify
  7. Log in to your Spotify account to continue

After updating your app, you may also see an option to "Add audio to BeReal" on your timeline. If you do this, you can skip the above steps by clicking the "Connect" button at the bottom of the pop-up window, and then click "Connect" next to Spotify again.

Finally, you can also connect your accounts by "clicking the music icon that appears before publishing [your] BeReal," according to Spotify's press release.

How to add music to your BeReal posts

When you use BeReal, cover art for the audio you're listening to will appear at the bottom of the screen. If you want to include the song, click on the cover art to open the Now Playing tab and select the Share option so your friends can see it. If you want to keep your musical tastes on DL, you can choose the "Private" option to make the songs visible only to you.

How to remove music from BeReal posts

While it's unclear whether you can delete a song after you post it, you can avoid the headache entirely by selecting the "Disable" option so that your post doesn't contain the content you were listening to before hitting the "Send" button.

Now that we have this new feature on BeReal, you no longer have to post a song on your IG Story hoping that the people you like will see it. Or you could try to capture their attention on both platforms, which isn't a bad idea, TBH.
