Generate AI images on Mac using "DiffusionBee"

Using artificial intelligence to generate images is fun and sometimes even useful, but the image generation usually happens on a server controlled by someone else. If you want a native Mac app that does the job (works completely offline, making it completely private), then DiffusionBee is what you need.

This Mac-only app downloads the AI models used to generate images and then runs them entirely on your computer. Generating takes just a few seconds on Apple Silicon devices; older Intel-based Macs are also supported, but image creation takes longer—about five minutes in my tests.

The app offers a number of different artificial intelligence tools for you to use - from generating images from text to modifying existing images. Before you do anything, you need to download the models, which will take up a few gigabytes of space on your computer.

The text-to-image generator is probably the simplest: just type in what you want and you get it. You can also provide an image and ask for a redo using text prompts. The results are obviously always accurate, as you'd expect from an AI tool (I mean, you may need to try a few different prompts before you get the results you want.)

Other features include the ability to remove objects from photos, the ability to create optical illusions, and the ability to upscale low-resolution images. It's essentially an AI image-making playground, and it's completely free, so if you have a Mac, give it a try.
