Google wants you to use artificial intelligence on your next vacation

Google wants you to trust its AI-powered search enough to use it to plan your next vacation. According to a blog post published this week, Google's Search Generated Experience (SGE) can now help you plan a destination itinerary for your next trip, including an overview that highlights must-see places, restaurants, and even possible flight and hotel options.

The new system is largely built on Google's AI-powered search response system, which scours the internet for different responses to your query. Google says using SGE will provide you with all the details you need, including photos, reviews and other information about businesses you might be visiting. Of course, this doesn't take into account the problems SGE has already encountered, such as it pushing scam and malware websites in SGE results. Hopefully Google has fixed some of these issues, but in the meantime be careful about the links you click on.

In addition to SGE, Google is highlighting how recommended listings in Google Maps can help you better plan your vacation, including showing recommendations from sites you trust as well as locals who know all the best spots. This isn't really built on AI, but we may see more AI features coming to Google Maps and other Google products in the future.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Google rolling out more AI features across its various projects. The company is making great progress with the launch of its Gemini AI chatbot, and we might even see these trip planning features appear on the map at some point, though probably in a different way. However, it may take a while before you can fully trust the information these AI tools are spitting at you.
