First Aid Kit’s “Out Of My Head” revisits one of our darkest eras

After releasing the Palomino album, Swedish sister group First Aid Kit is currently on a UK tour, performing in London, Cambridge, Manchester, Birmingham and other places. Their fifth studio album is the follow-up to 2018's Ruins , and the second single released from the album is "Out of My Head".

Klara and Johanna Söderberg explain how the pop-leaning folk-synth track has a different vibe than their previous songs. "The song was written on a whim, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling trapped in your own thoughts and desperately trying to escape," they explain. "We wanted the piece to feel like an old '80s rock song. We were inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush and Tom Petty. "

"Out of My Head" perfectly captures the feeling of being trapped and stuck in your own thoughts - a feeling most of us will be familiar with since the nationwide lockdown. The band talks about how time passes but can't do anything about it, with lines like "Like a beggar on his knees/My time is running out?"

Feelings of frustration and helplessness are also clearly expressed in the lyrics: "Stuck in my dreams/Behind/Down/Does it matter now?" [...] All my dreams/All my trials/They will lead to Does it matter where/now? "

The new single is accompanied by a music video directed by Jason Lester. Filmed primarily in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland, it features stunning footage of the band running across a vast landscape, the gray sky contrasting with their bright pink dresses.

Speaking about the album as a whole, First Aid Kit revealed that the songs were mostly written during lockdown. "In dark times like these, music feels like an escape from all the terrible things going on in the world. We wanted this album to be more upbeat and upbeat than our previous album Ruins (a breakup record). That could be us The most popular record ever.”

Below, check out the lyrics to "Out Of My Head."

Back in the past, oh, I went wandering

Through the rooms of my soul

every door i close

all the people who let me down

On the river, I go down the river

then came back

Like a beggar on my knees

Don't I have enough time?

trapped in my dream

behind

Low speed operation

Does it matter now?

Get me out and out of my mind

Get out of my head, oh oh oh

Words weigh heavily on my shoulders

slowly drowned in the sound

Every door suddenly opens

Pray I can be chained to the ground

On the river, I go down the river

then came back

Like a prisoner, set me free

Don't I have enough time?

trapped in my dream

behind

Low speed operation

Does it matter now?

Get me out and out of my mind

Get out of my head, oh oh oh

from my mind, from my mind

On the river, I go down the river

then came back

Like a beggar on my knees

Don't I have enough time?

all my dreams

all my trials

where will they take

Does it matter now?

Get me out and out of my mind

trapped in my dream

behind

Low speed operation

Does it matter now?

Get me out and out of my mind

Get out of my head, oh oh oh

Get out of my head, oh oh oh

Get out of my mind, oh

Oh, from my mind, oh

Oh, from my mind, oh
