By now, you've probably had to nervously explain the meaning behind your username "@LarryStylinson4Ever" every time someone tries to add you on Snapchat. Or maybe you've even considered making a brand new Snapchat profile, but realized you don't want to lose your memory or streak. Well, your years-long identity crisis may finally be over. Starting February 23, all Snapchat users on iOS and Android will be free to change their Snapchat username.
As you might have guessed, this update is one of the most anticipated features in Snapchat's history. If you're on the cusp of Millennial/Gen Z, there's a good chance you used Snapchat when it debuted in 2011. While your username may not be as bad as the AIM username you created in 2006, it's probably not that far off. Just like many people who have changed their Instagram usernames or purged their Facebook walls of "Truth Is" posts, there's a good chance your Snapchat username no longer fits your personality the way it once did.
If you're ready to give your username a makeover, here's what you need to know about how to change your Snapchat username.
How to change your Snapchat username
One important thing to note before changing your Snapchat username is that you can only change your username once per year. Luckily, most users have had nearly a decade to think about what they want their Snapchat username to be, rather than what it is now. However, to avoid regretting it again, be sure to give your new handle some thought before replacing it.
To change your Snapchat username, open the Snapchat app's home screen and click on the Bitmoji in the upper left corner. This will open your profile page and you can then navigate to your settings by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner.
Click on the second option on the menu, "Username." A reminder will pop up informing you that you can only change your username once a year. If you're ready to accept this commitment, click Continue and enter your desired username. Click "Next" and voila. Your Snap just got the makeover it deserves. Maybe take this opportunity to update on the new nose ring on Bitmoji?
