When you've just achieved an impressive achievement in your favorite Nintendo Switch game, it's great to be able to take screenshots of your progress and share them with others. Here's how to take a screenshot on your Nintendo Switch, and what you need to know when sharing it.
Taking screenshots with your Nintendo Switch is easy, as long as you know which buttons to press:
- On Joy-Con controllers : The left Joy-Con has a dedicated screenshot button. It's square and located near the bottom of the controller, below the directional buttons.
- On the Pro Controller : The screenshot button is located to the left of the center of the controller, above the D-pad.
Once you press the screenshot button on either controller, you'll hear a camera shutter sound and a notification will pop up in the upper left corner of the Switch screen saying "Captured."
All of your screenshots can be found in the Photo Gallery app on Nintendo Switch. To view screenshots, select the photo album icon at the bottom of the Switch home screen (looks like a box with side heat).
If you have a lot of screenshots, you can filter them in the photo album to make browsing easier. Click "Filter" or press the Y button and select the filter you want to use. You can choose to view:
- Screenshot only
- Video only
- System Memory: Images stored on the Switch itself
- MicroSD Card: Images stored on the Switch's removable microSD card
- Specific game screenshots: so you can browse based on the games you've played.
You can add text to the screenshot before sharing it. That's it.
Select the image you want to edit.
You can also use the directional buttons or left analog stick to move to the relevant image and press A to open it.
Press A or click Edit and Publish .
Select Add text .
Enter the message you want to accompany the screenshot.
You can use the D-pad or left analog stick to select letters on the keyboard, but it's much faster to tap the on-screen keyboard with your fingers.
Confirm the message by pressing the plus ( + ) button.
Click and drag the completed text on the screen. Alternatively, select Change and use the directional buttons or left analog stick to move the text; use the L and R buttons to rotate it.
If you don't like the font size or text color, select these options to change them accordingly.
Select Done . Your screenshot now has text added.
A copy of the screenshot without text will be saved to your Switch for future reference.
Once you choose a screenshot, you can easily share it with others using a number of different methods.
Here's how to share it via social media networks.
Click Edit and Publish , or press A.
Select post
If you want to share multiple screenshots at once, click Publish multiple and select each image you want to share before clicking Publish .
Choose a publishing location . Your choices are Facebook or X.
The first time you do this, you'll need to link your social media accounts to your Switch. Select "Link accounts" and follow the instructions to log in.
Enter a comment or tweet and select "Post" to send the screenshot to your social media account.
A message will appear confirming that you have successfully shared your Nintendo Switch screenshot. Go check your social media accounts to be sure!
Sometimes, you may want to move screenshots to a microSD card instead of keeping them on the console. This is useful because you can remove the microSD card and place it in your PC or laptop, just like you would with a memory card from a digital camera.
While browsing your Switch photo album, select the screenshot you want to move.
Click Edit and Publish .
Select Copy .
Select Copy again.
Select OK .
You now have two copies of this screenshot. One copy is on the Switch and one is on the microSD card.
Want to delete one of your copies? In an album, click Delete (or press X) and select each image. Select Delete to delete the image of your choice.
