what to know
- There are several ways to screen mirror on an LG TV, including using screen sharing and casting.
- Android devices require mirroring capabilities such as HTC Connect or Wi-Fi Direct to display the screen on LG TVs.
- For iPhone, some LG smart TVs support Apple AirPlay 2. Click the AirPlay button on your phone to find your TV.
Watching videos on your smartphone or tablet is convenient. However, if you have an LG Smart TV, you can enjoy these videos on a larger screen instead of a small smartphone display.
One way to view your smartphone on an LG TV is to use screen mirroring. Almost all Android phones have this feature.
LG calls its TV screen mirroring feature Screen Share, but the feature on different makes and models of smartphones may be called any of the following:
- Screen sharing or smart sharing (LG)
- Miracaste
- smart view
- Wireless Display (aka WiDi)
- Show mirror
- HTC Connect
- Wireless direct connection
Here's how to use LG's screen sharing on your Android phone:
Select screen sharing on your LG TV.
On your phone, open the Settings app and select the screen mirroring feature.
In the remaining steps, the phone (HTC Android) is on the left and the LG TV screen is on the right.
Select your TV to initiate the connection. It may take some time for the phone to detect the TV. Both devices will display their connection status.
Once the process is completed, your smartphone or tablet screen will be displayed on your LG TV.
Here's how your smartphone's mirrored content looks on an LG Smart TV with screen sharing.
To end a screen mirroring session, tap Disconnect (if available) in your phone's screen mirroring settings, turn off your device, change to a different feature on your TV, or turn off your TV. If you are playing content from a specific app, that app will stop playing when you use other features on your smartphone.
If you have an LG TV that supports Apple AirPlay 2, you can stream directly from your iPhone or iPad. Just open Home Dashboard on your TV and go to AirPlay > AirPlay & HomeKit Settings > AirPlay .
If your LG Smart TV is not AirPlay 2 compatible, possible solutions include:
- Third-party apps : Some apps allow screen mirroring from iPhone/iPad to LG Smart TV, including TV Cast Pro and AirBeam. LG does not guarantee that third-party screen mirroring applications will work with all LG Smart TVs; some of these applications may also work on Android phones.
- Indirect Screen Mirroring : This can be done from an iPhone/iPad to an Apple TV or Chromecast device, which in turn passes the mirrored content to the LG TV via an HDMI connection.
To use an iPhone with a Chromecast, the iPhone needs to be running iOS 15 or later.
You can also mirror your PC or laptop to your LG TV by searching for the TV from your computer.
Open the screen sharing app on your TV.
On your computer, open Settings and go to Bluetooth & Devices (Windows 11) or Devices (Windows 10).
If you're using Windows 10, select Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device .
Select Add a device (Windows 11) or Add a device (Windows 10), and then select Wireless display or docking station .
Select your LG TV and wait for confirmation.
After confirming the connection, make sure to set the projection mode to "Copy" so that you can get an exact mirror of your PC screen on your TV.
Once the PC step is completed, everything visible on the PC screen will be mirrored to the LG Smart TV.
To end your screen mirroring session, select the Disconnect prompt in the small black rectangular box at the top of your computer screen, change to another feature on your TV, or turn off your TV.
Connect your TV and computer using an HDMI cable for a wired solution to see your computer screen on your TV.
Another way to view Android phone content on an LG Smart TV is through casting.
LG smart TVs feature DIAL (Discover and Release) functionality. This allows selected apps, such as YouTube and Netflix, to be cast directly from an Android phone or tablet to an LG Smart TV without the need to plug in an additional Chromecast device.
Here are a few things you need to know about this:
- All devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Casting with the DIAL system is only available for selected applications.
- Only content is displayed on the TV screen. Your phone's settings, home screen, etc. are not mirrored.
- While cast content is playing on your TV, you can perform other tasks on your smartphone at the same time, or even turn it off.
- If your Android smartphone or tablet application is compatible with casting using the DIAL system, the Cast logo will appear on the phone screen.
- The app you are casting needs to be installed on your smartphone/tablet and TV.
Please follow the steps below to use this feature:
After turning on the TV, open YouTube or another compatible app on your phone.
The app you want to cast must be installed on your mobile device and TV.
Click the Cast icon at the top of the screen for the selected app, then click the TV you want to cast to. The media will start playing.
If you see the cast icon but your TV isn't listed as an available device, you won't be able to cast content to your LG TV without an external Chromecast device.
While screen sharing is the most straightforward way to mirror your smartphone or PC screen on a smart TV, LG offers other options through your TV's device connector settings.
After selecting Device Connector from the home screen, you will be taken to a menu with connection options for all your devices, including smartphones or PCs.
In addition to direct access from the main menu, the screen sharing application can also be accessed through the LG TV's device connector. However, since its functionality has been discussed previously, the focus below is on the content sharing option, which is only accessible within the Device Connector.
Select Content Sharing and you will be guided through the steps on your smartphone and LG TV.
After completing these steps, you will see the photo, music and video file sharing menu on your LG TV screen. This way you can play compatible files from your smartphone in these categories on your LG TV.
Content sharing also allows LG Smart TVs to access and play compatible music, photo and video files stored on a PC or laptop.
The LG Smart Share app needs to be installed on your computer for the content sharing feature to work on PCs and TVs.
After you select PC Content Sharing and follow the prompted connection steps on your PC and TV, you'll see a photo, music, and video file sharing menu on your TV. After selecting a category, you will be able to display compatible files stored on your PC.
FAQTo clean your TV screen, turn it off and wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth without force. If needed, dampen the cloth with distilled water or an equal proportion of distilled water and white vinegar.
To get the best picture on your LG TV, make sure it's in Home Mode. From the TV home screen, select Settings , then scroll to the Picture icon and use the left and right remote buttons to switch between different Picture presets.
To customize your LG TV's home screen, press and hold the Recent Apps key in the Touch Bar and select Home screen settings . From there, you can set your wallpaper, toggle smart announcements, and more.
If your LG TV screen is black, use the power button on the TV instead of the remote to turn it on. Check the HDMI cables and try plugging them into different ports. If you are still having problems, unplug the TV and wait 10-15 minutes before plugging it back in. Then, press and hold the power button on the TV for 10-15 seconds.
