A little over five years ago, a young man named Scooter Braun was just hanging out on YouTube (actually, this was around the time YouTube started to become popular) and he discovered it through his YouTube channel Justin Bieber, a skinny singer from Ontario, Canada. Braun somehow convinced Bieber's mother to let him manage her son and allowed Bieber to meet with Usher. The rest, as they say, is history. Bieber quickly made an album that became an instant hit: Minecraft 2.0 hit the shelves in 2010, making Bieber an instant superstar. Besides his silky falsetto and those dance moves that make girls squeal, Bieber is also known for one other thing: his hair.
Part bowl cut, part "emo kid with hair on his face," Bieber's hairstyle became the "Rachel" of adolescent boys across America. Some say he looks like a middle-aged lesbian, but that's not the case. There was a time when everyone in America was either talking about Bieber's song "Baby" or his hair: Those were pretty much your only two options. Of course, imitation is the highest form of flattery, and many people have copied Bieber's approach, including many celebrities. From singers to athletes, some of your favorite stars are running to the hairdresser than Bieber, destined for a new life of having their hair swung out of your eyes. (Trust me, I know what it's like to flip your hair all the time. I have bangs.) Let's take a trip down memory lane and see who gets Bieber's favor, shall we?
Austin Mahone
After Justin Bieber became a superstar, other labels tried to cash in on the return of teen pop in the late '90s/early '00s by launching a similar crop of artists. Austin Mahone is one of them, and he's almost completely smitten with Bieber, right down to the flaxen blond hair on his head. It's worth noting that he's evolved from this horrible haircut, but there was a time when he and Bieber were using all the same products and singing the same music. oops.
tom brady
I'm not even a Patriots fan, and this is easily the most shocking of Bieber's hair imitations. One day Pats quarterback Tom Brady showed up and had his hair cut like Justin Bieber. Is this a result of his wife Gisele? Maybe too many concussions from getting fired in the NFL? The world may never know. Luckily, this hairstyle only lasted a short time. I mean, don’t you get sweaty with a helmet on? I mean, you're one of the best athletes in the world, Tom—you can't shake your hair out of your eyes before every hut hike, you know?
Liam Payne
Bieber himself accused One Direction's Liam Payne of growing Justin Bieber's hair because I guess this is what young male singers call a turf war? And Liam's Bieber was a little late, around 2012, Bieber's 2009. That Liam was always behind the times.
the Beatles
I mean, it's bad enough when one guy from a British boy band imitates Bieber's hair, but four others at the same time? George, John, Paul and Ringo, have some self-respect and have your own signature look, okay?
