'Love Island' prize money never shared because £50,000 is already a lot

Love Island Season 4 is coming to an end. In a few hours, this year's King and Queen will be crowned and the winner of the £50,000 cash prize will be determined. But of course, the ending isn't that simple (come on guys, this is Love Island ). There is a big problem. Before Caroline Flack offered the winning couple the chance to split the prize with their partner, only one of the winning couple had claimed it, but would they? Did any of the Love Island winners share the prize money?

Yes, this is the most confusing twist. Choose a life-changing amount of money, or choose someone you've known for a few weeks but might fall in love with. It's them and not me. Of course, £25,000 is nothing to sneer at, but £50,000 is actually twice as good.

We all know that money problems are one of the biggest causes of relationship turmoil, but this is like next level stress. Imagine finally finding love and then them choosing money over you? Oh, and there's live TV. shudder. The question is, after all that romance and falling in love, does anyone want to actually gift the one they love to themselves and keep all the cash?

Well, let's take a look back at the first series of Love Island , where Max Morley and Jesse Hayes were voted the nation's favorite couple in 2015. After their win, host Caroline Flack asked them whether they wanted "love or money" when it came time to decide whether to split the prize or keep it all alone. Then they must give their answers simultaneously. If they both choose "Love" then they will split the prize equally, but if one chooses "Love" and the other chooses "Money" then the person who chooses cash will win the entire prize. However, if they all choose "money," they all go home with empty pockets. Got the picture?

Fortunately, Jesse and Max both run for love and share the huge winnings.

A year later in 2016, the rules changed slightly for winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey. This time, the two men received two envelopes at random, and they each had to pick one. There was £50,000 in an envelope. The other had nothing in it.

Just in case you don't remember what happened, Kara picked up the envelope with all the money inside. But then did she choose love or money? Of course she chose love and never looked back.

Kara and Nathan now have a little boy named Freddie George. The two also recently announced their engagement.

In Series 3, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay were crowned champions but faced an almost identical twist. In this case, the cash winner is series favorite Keim. When he was asked to decide whether to split the cash equally or take it all, the Essex boy chose "bae" and split the cash down the middle. To his embarrassment, the relationship only lasted 132 days after the two left the villa. It doesn't matter, eh?

As tonight's finale approaches, as the couple battle to win all the cash, will they choose love or money? Tune in to ITV2 tonight at 9pm to find out.

Only three pairs remain in the competition; Megan Barton-Hanson and Wes Nelson, Laura Anderson and Paul Knops, and finally Danny Dyer and Jack Fincham. However, only one of them can win.
