Thank you so much, Diane, for what you just said to me. I feel so much love and I feel so proud. Fashion has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Its impact on me actually started before I was born. Many of you don't know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents didn't have enough money and they couldn't afford my mother's Catholic school tuition. So my grandmother sewed clothes for priests and nuns and made school uniforms for students in exchange for my mother’s education. She then passed this gift on to my mother and taught her how to sew.

Starting with Destiny's Child, high-end brands didn't want to dress four curvy black country girls, and we couldn't afford designer clothes and fashion. My mother was turned down by every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talents and creativity to make her children's dreams come true. My mother and my uncle, God bless his soul, made all of our first outfits, each sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every little detail . When I put these clothes on, I feel like Khaleesi. I have an extra set of armor. It goes much deeper than any brand name.

My mother is very beautiful and she is here tonight. My mother, grandmother and uncle are always with me so I can't fail. My mom actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress, the list goes on. To me, this is the true power and potential of fashion. It is a tool for finding your own identity. It transcends style and is a time capsule of all our greatest milestones. To my mother, my grandmother, my uncles, thank you. Thank you for showing me that presence is about so much more than the clothes you wear and how beautiful you look. Thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard, and live life on your terms.

I want to say thank you to every designer who works tirelessly to make people think they can write their own stories. You are all fairy godmothers, magicians, sculptors, and sometimes even our therapists. I encourage you not to forget this power you have and not to take it lightly. We have the opportunity to contribute to society so that any girl can see herself reflected on a billboard or magazine cover. The soul has no color, no shape, no form. Like all of your work, there is much more to it than meets the eye. You have the power to change perceptions, inspire and empower, and show people how to embrace their complexity, see flaws, and the true beauty and strength that lies within us all. Thank you so much for this incredible award, a night I will never forget. God bless you. Thanks. "
