Hollywood is never afraid to give us movies with origin stories we never asked for — that’s how we got Jennifer Lawrence’s vehicle Joy about the creation of Mop, or Ben Affleck’s newly released film about the Nike marketing team. Next up is a story about the creation of Pop-Tarts called Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story , directed by legendary comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who will co-write, direct, and produce the film and starring. Deadline announced in the summer of 2021 that the film would be produced by Netflix, with a reported budget of $70 million and an all-A-list cast. In 1963, two Michigan cereal companies, Kellogg and Post, competed with each other to create a new pastry that would "change the face of breakfast forever." The film is described in a press release as "a story of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and a sinister milkman," and promises plenty of comedy throughout—it was, after all, inspired by Seinfeld 23, a stand-up comedy special at the Beacon Theater in 2020, in which he waxes philosophical about his love of flan, which he deconstructed for The New York Times last year (below).
" Seinfeld" star Spike Fereston, who co-created the film with comedian Barry Madder, told Deadline, " I was sitting at home watching endless sad faces on TV, and I thought this was a It was a great time to make something based on pure silliness, so we took the pop-tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and turned it into a huge, crazy comedy movie."
