Twitter is ecstatic about the return of The Great British Bake Off

After a painful wait, The Great British Bake Off returns to screens on Tuesday 13 September. The show's Season 13 premiere couldn't come at a better time. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the uplifting nature of the Cake Lovers Competition has provided some much-needed diversion for a public currently in mourning. After a warm welcome from the audience, Paul Hollywood and Ms Prue Leith resumed their highly regarded roles as judges. Meanwhile, comedians Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding bring the mischief as the show's witty co-hosts.

Ahead of the premiere, many fans took to Twitter to discuss what snacks they would eat while watching the episode. One viewer asked: "What is everyone eating at Bake Off ? We're eating healthy banana bread."

Another fan shared a photo of a cat snuggled up in bed under a cozy quilt. They jokingly captioned the photo: "Lying in bed, drinking tea and eating scones because Bake Off is back. The vibe is perfect."

As always, there were some special highlights at the show. Contestant Abdul shook his head when it took him 40 minutes to realize his oven wasn't hot. In one tense moment, he nearly dropped the cake on the floor. Later, baker Syabira shed tears of joy when she won a tricky technical challenge.
