Spencer charts her life and Netflix's The Crown Princess Diana continues to captivate audiences around the world, and it's clear that curiosity about all things Princess Diana shows no signs of abating. Various aspects of the late princess's life and preferences - including her favorite meals, snacks of choice and go-to beauty products - remain a topic of interest to many. Former royal chef Darren McGrady shared some little-known details about Princess Diana's food and drink preferences, including her alcoholic beverage of choice, in an interview with Bustle.

Chef McGrady, who served Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace for 11 years and worked for Princess Diana at Kensington Palace after her high-profile split from Prince Charles, is very familiar with the dining habits of the British royal family.

In an exclusive interview on behalf of British coffee retailer Coffee Friend, chef McGrady revealed that although Princess Diana was "not a big drinker", she preferred the occasional chardonnay. "Puligny Montrachet is the wine we serve most at Kensington Palace," Maddie explains, adding that although Princess Diana loved this particular Chardonnay, she wasn't Champagne, wine or cocktails.

"I remember she walked into the kitchen one day and something was going on. She was talking about the drink and she said, 'I can't drink champagne, it just makes me giggle, so I have to stay away from it.'" Maddie continued, " She also couldn't drink red wine as it gave her the most horrific headaches, and Diana would stay away from cocktails - they would completely break her."

Although alcohol was not one of Princess Diana's favorite indulgences, the late princess enjoyed eating Cadbury Twirl chocolate bars, cheese and lychee fruit.

“I would always have a bowl of lychees in the kitchen. Diana would come in, pull up a chair, and chat like squirrels while eating fruit and cheese,” recalls Chef McGrady. “She would fill the kitchen with shells and rocks.”
