Two supermarket giants have weighed in on the Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez story. As you may know, the two women recently posed together at the Academy Music Gala in Los Angeles, putting an end to years of rumors about a feud between the two. Since Gomez is the ex-girlfriend of Hailey's husband, Justin Bieber, the photos generated a lot of reaction online. But what does this have to do with supermarkets, you might ask?
Well, Aldi cleverly retweeted the photo of Bieber and Gomez with the caption: "Us next, Marks & Spencer." Unsurprisingly, Twitter users loved the interaction. As of press time, Aldi's Bieber and Gomez post has received more than 93,000 likes and 6,000 shares. This is not the first time supermarket chains have clashed.
In early 2021, Marks & Spencer launched an intellectual property claim against Aldi over its Cuthbert the Caterpillar cakes. British supermarket says Aldi is copying its trademarked "Colin the Caterpillar" cake. The row pitted Twitter rivalry between M&S's Colin and Aldi's Cuthbert. For the most part, Twitter is firmly #TeamAldi.
Meanwhile, in December last year M&S launched legal action again against Aldi after it was alleged that the company had copied their glowing Christmas gin balls. Thankfully, that hasn't stopped their banter from taking off on social media. On September 22, Aldi posted on Facebook, "We are using this International Day of Peace to extend our reach to Marks and Spencer."
