The Flash's Eddie Might Be a Comic-Con Character

As the final episodes of The Flash season 1 are about to air, everyone involved with the show promises they will be full of revelations and surprises. So could Eddie Thawne be from The Flash comics? The show primarily focused on developing Eddie as Barry's romantic rival since he was dating Iris, but when the Reverse-Flash spared Eddie a few episodes ago, it hinted at Eddie having a role in The Flash 's mythos A stronger position. Whatever the reason, whether he's really a bad guy or really a good guy, Reverse-Flash knows Eddie Thawne is going to be important. With so much time travel already happening on the show, it sounds like Reverse-Flash has some idea of what's going to happen in the future.

But there's more than one possibility for who Eddie is. Just because Harrison Wells has admitted that his true identity is Eobard Swann doesn't mean we need to rule out a potential Swann/Doctor. Zoom/Wells Connect. Wells refers to it as a "distant relative," but I think that might be more of a clue than a dismissal. While it doesn't seem like Eddie Thawne will be the one behind the Reverse-Flash mask (which seems unlikely since they looked into each other's eyes), that doesn't mean Eddie won't be inspired by The Flash's Some comic characters.

He may be a close relative of Wells

The comic book version of Eobard Thawne, Professor Zoom, is a man from the future, just like Wells. Maybe he and Eddie are more than just "distant relatives" and Eddie is actually Wells' great-grandfather or something more direct.

He may be a young professor Zoom

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Their names are similar, he's Barry's rival... he could be the young Reverse-Flash.

He could be Alexander Petrov

Petrov is a criminologist turned serial killer who uses his power and skills to frame members of the Rogue Order and gain promotion for himself. Perhaps Swann, obsessed with finding the thieves, will find himself committing murder in an attempt to trap them.

He could just be a regular cop now...

There are a lot of public servants in The Flash comics. Eventually, some of them become heroes or villains of their own devices. Maybe Eddie won't have anything to do with the Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash plot at all, but become superhuman or otherwise gain powers.
