Kate Middleton's Wimbledon look has a hidden meaning

Kate Middleton made a splash in her first public appearance in months, showing off a stylish and meaningful look. The Princess of Wales wore a flowing purple dress to the Wimbledon men's singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz on July 14. And complete the stylish ensemble with the perfect accessories.

Middleton announced she would be taking a break from royal duties after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She's only made one public appearance since then, so royal fans around the world were delighted to see her back on the court (and slowly fulfilling her royal duties) for the annual tennis tournament.

Middleton was all smiles as she took her seat in the royal box with her daughter Princess Charlotte and her sister Pippa. Her return to the public eye was warmly welcomed, with a crowd of around 15,000 giving the Princess a well-deserved standing ovation. One more thing that deserves a standing ovation? Middleton's perfect purple gown.

Kate's lilac draped dress

The Princess of Wales chose a lilac midi dress from London brand Safiyaa. The cap-sleeve dress had a delicate twist of draping along the bodice — which she customized slightly by adding more fabric to cover her bust. A thin built-in belt separates the elegant top from the A-line ruffled skirt.

She accessorized her look with her famous engagement ring (duh), a pair of gold earrings by By Pariah and two dainty bracelets. The princess wore tan slingback heels and a matching nude LK Bennett handbag. During the game, she also wore Victoria Beckham black square sunglasses.

But one of the smallest details in the princesses' outfits is definitely the most symbolic: her green and purple brooch, which Queen Elizabeth II gave her in 2016. Since the late Queen appointed Kate as Royal Patron of the United Kingdom, Middleton has worn a meaningful pin every time she appears at Wimbledon at the Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Trophy Award Ceremony

It is the patron's responsibility to present the trophy to the winner of the tournament, with Spain's Carlos Alcaraz becoming the 2024 Wimbledon champion for the second year in a row. Kate seemed genuinely honored to present the trophy to the young athlete and paid tribute to runner-up Novak Djokovic, who had won the event seven times previously.

All in all, Middleton's look for the special occasion was a slam dunk — pun intended (and pinned).
