We know "Weekend with Adele" is a great time thanks to her Las Vegas residency. Lizzo made an appearance on Elvis Duran and The Morning Show on Friday, February 10, to talk about the two singers' night together at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, which she just confirmed Got this. The new Record of the Year winner shared some of their funny stories. Especially their drunken antics and encounter with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Lizzo generally enjoys star-studded music events. "When I go to the Grammys, even if I don't get a trophy, I always feel like a winner," she said. This year's experience sounds extra special, though, as she sat at the same table as Adele at the request of her famous friend. "I have zero say in where I sit, but Adele has 100 percent say in where she sits," Lizzo explained, before adding that Adele FaceTimed her days before the show Call her and tell her, “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, we’re sitting together!”
"She said, 'I want to sit next to you,'" Lizzo continued. "I was like, 'Well, great, because I want to sit next to you.'"
The night of the show, Lizzo had a bottle for everyone: tequila for hers, and a white wine, Sauvignon Blanc, for Adele. A nice move, but one that didn't have the desired effect. "I brought it to Adele and I drank hers," Lizzo shared. (Apparently she drinks too.)
Not surprisingly, both men remained drunk throughout the evening. "I was definitely drunk," Lizzo said. "Like, Adele and I drank so much that we don't even know what the category is now. Like, we were like, 'Wait, did they win Best New Artist?' "
She explained that every time their names were called, they "would say, 'Smile, smile.'" When she won Record of the Year for "About Damn Time," she wasn't prepared. "I was actually in total shock when they called my name because I didn't expect to win at all, let alone win a big prize," she said.
Despite being drunk and stunned, Lizzo gave a touching acceptance speech, shouting out her parents, producers and boyfriend, as well as "the artist of our lives" Beyoncé. That speech and her "special" performance were one of the best moments of the night, along with her front-row view of Adele's surprise introduction to Dwayne Johnson. Lizzo spoke about the meeting on Elvis Duran and The Morning Show , saying she was "speechless" during their "brief" meeting. "What do you want to say to the boulder, you know what I mean?" she pointed out.
All in all, it was a night to remember for Lizzo and Adele. Whether they do so is another matter entirely.
