Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal is known for his critically acclaimed performances in films like Normal People , Afterglow, and Lost Daughter , but he showcases his talent in a newly released song After gaining vocal talent, the actor can now add professional singing to his already impressive resume.
The original song, titled "Slip Away," was released as part of the soundtrack to the musical Carmen , in which Mescal stars opposite Scream's Melissa Barrera. In the accompanying music video, Mescal plays guitar and sings acoustically, and following the song's debut, fans took to social media to gush about the Irish actor's hidden talent.
"I had fallen in love with actor Paul Mescal and then I found out he could sing...and I've never been the same since," one fan wrote on a TikTok that has now gone viral. "Why didn't anyone tell me Paul Mescal could sing? I do feel sick, but in a butterfly kind of way." Another fan joked on Twitter that he shouldn't be allowed to do that, while one TikTok users simply asked: “What can’t this person do? "
Based on the classic opera of the same name directed by Benjamin Millepied, Carmen tells the story of a woman (Barrera) who escapes her home and embarks on a life-changing journey from Mexico to Los Angeles. In the film, which will have a limited release in the United States starting in April 2023, Mescal stars as Aidan, a Marine with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who works on the U.S.-Mexico border.
While many fans are surprised by his vocal abilities, this isn't the first time Mescal has showcased his vocal abilities. Back in July 2020, the actor performed a surprise duet with Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy at London's Natural History Museum.
Meanwhile, the BAFTA winner's sister, Nell Mescal, is enjoying a music career, and the family seems to be singing along - back in 2020, the siblings teased fans Performed a duet.
