Olivia Rodrigo isn't interested in your "conspiracy theories," especially when it comes to Taylor Swift. "Get him back!" In a new interview published by Rolling Stone on September 12, the singer clarified rumors that she was feuding with the Grammy winner, just as Swift expressed in a subtle way Hours before the show of support for Rodrigo.
In January 2021, after Rodrigo's debut single "Drivers License" took off, she publicly declared herself a major supporter of Swift, and Swift voiced her support. But months later, fans speculated that the two were no longer friendly and they stopped communicating publicly after Rodrigo wrote for Swift on her debut album , SOUR .
However, Rodrigo told RS that she doesn't have any issues with Swift or anyone else. "I didn't have an argument with anyone," she said. "I'm pretty chill. I just keep to myself. I have my four friends and my mom, which is really the only people I talk to. There's not much to say. There's a lot of conspiracy theories on Twitter. I just watch Alien Conspiracy theory." Swift seemed to have the same idea. In a viral video from the 2023 VMAs, she can be seen raising her hands to cheer and applaud as Rodrigo's name is called out from the speakers.
Rodrigo had a slightly different story when it came to the credits, admitting she was "a little caught off guard," but that's not all she did. "It was chaotic, I was pale, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Is that the word?" she asked. "It's not something I'm super involved in. It's more of a team effort. So, I'm not the best person to ask."
On "SOUR ," Rodrigo interjects the piano melody from Swift's famed track "New Year's Day" into "1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back," which Swift and Jack Antonoff released on the album It has been recognized for this before. Swift later received a writing credit for "Deja Vu" after fans noticed similarities between the bridge and her Lover hit "Cruel Summer." Hayley Williams also received critical acclaim for "good 4 u" after being compared to Paramore's "Misery Business." But Rodrigo predicts she won't ask for a byline if the song is inspired by her. "I don't think I would do it personally," she said. "But who's to say where I'll be in 20, 30 years? All I can do is write songs and focus on the things I can control."
